How to Clean and Store a Tea Scoop: Dry Wiping, Handling Moisture, and Daily Maintenance

After using a chasoku (tea scoop) to portion tea leaves, ensure it is free of any leftover leaves or moisture before putting it away. This guide outlines the daily care for SEKIMONO's hand-finished, surface-colored copper tea scoops.

Brush off tea leaves and wipe with a soft cloth

After use, remove any remaining tea leaves or powder, and gently wipe the scoop with a soft cloth. Even if tea powder remains in the decorative grooves, do not scrape it out with hard tools or rub it forcefully. If the cloth is damp, finish by wiping away any moisture with a dry cloth.

If it comes into contact with water, do not store it while wet

If water droplets get on the scoop, wipe it with a soft cloth and make sure it is completely dry before storing it. For stubborn stains, please refer to our Care Guide for Copper Tea Ware. If you are unsure whether a mark is a stain or part of the surface finish, please contact us with a photo before proceeding.

Avoid polishing to restore luster

The texture of the surface coloring is not meant to be removed by polishing. Please avoid using metal polishes, abrasive sponges, or cleaning methods involving vinegar or citric acid. Further details can be found in our guide on Care to Avoid for Surface-Colored Copper Ware.

Dry thoroughly and store away from other items

Do not leave the scoop wrapped in a damp tea cloth; store it in a place where no moisture remains. If you stack it with other tea ware, arrange the items so that their surfaces do not rub against each other. For tea scoops made of different materials or with different finishes, please prioritize the instructions provided by their respective makers.
