SEKIMONO Copper Teaware: Materials and Craftsmanship Standards
- Origin and Workshop: Every piece is hand-finished and patinated at our partner workshop in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.
- Material Characteristics: While copper does not shatter like ceramics, it can dent, deform, or scratch if subjected to strong impact.
- Patina and Aging: The surface features a stable, oxidized patina. With use, the metal will react to tea oils, skin oils, and atmospheric oxygen, gradually developing a soft, organic luster.
- Care Instructions: Simply wipe with a soft, dry cloth after use. Please do not use dishwashers or abrasive scouring powders.
For more detailed care instructions, please see our Copper Teaware Care & Daily Maintenance Guide.

FAQ
Q. Is copper patina (verdigris) harmful to the body?
Verdigris (copper rust), which was once mistakenly believed to be toxic until the early Showa period, was officially confirmed to be harmless by an official study conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (at the time) in 1984 (data published by the Japan Copper Center). By wiping the copper with a dry cloth regularly, you can prevent blue-green rust and maintain a deep, antique aesthetic.
Q. How long does shipping take and what is the cost?
All orders within Japan are shipped free of charge. Once an order is confirmed, we promptly proceed with packing and shipping, and we will provide you with a tracking number as soon as the item has been dispatched.
Q. Which tools do you recommend starting with?
If you already own a teapot or a gaiwan, we recommend starting with a "chasoku" (tea scoop) to measure and observe the tea leaves. It allows you to pour tea leaves into the teapot opening without spilling, refining your movements during a tea session.
